Wedding Websites

The wedding day. It’s a rite of passage for nearly every culture, a grand event that unites two loving individuals forever (that’s the hope). And while the planning can be stressful, the day itself is typically quite fun. Remember your wedding? Or perhaps that of a good friend? The cheesy band, cake you don’t remember, long, awkward talks with a second cousin that swears you should hang out more. Weddings in themselves are a ball, but what is not is the planning, and a big part of the planning is the wedding website.

Nonexistent 30 years ago, wedding websites in 2019 are a mainstay. In fact, if you’re tying the knot and don’t have one, every guest will openly wonder why. With that said, the options are plentiful, and what follows are some of the best.

The Knot

For truly beautiful designs, the Knot is one of the best out there. You may purchase a domain for $20 but can also use the Knot’s services for free. There are over 160 designed templates and the service is very easy to set up. A cool all-in-one wedding planning app is available and the site’s newlywed fund allow for retail registries that automatically sync.

As with every site however, there are cons. The RSVP for example is not customizable and if you want to edit the site it can’t be done through the app.

Squarespace

Initially a bit clunky, Squarespace has greatly improved its offerings over the last 10 years. While other sites might have more attractive designs, Squarespace concentrates on professional-looking sites. It is possible to customize nearly every element on the site and you can see the changes in real-time which makes customization very intuitive.

Anyone can use the site for free, but there is a limit of two weeks. After that you will need to upgrade and an additional $20 will fetch you a custom domain. Now, wedding features such as RSVPs will not be able to integrate with the guest list because there is no registry tool, and this can be challenging. So, while Squarespace is a great platform, paying this amount for a wedding specific site might not be for everyone.

Wix

Like Squarespace, Wix is free for a bit but you’ll eventually be charged. The photo uploader is easy to use, a cool click-and-drag editor gives you again real-time updating abilities, and as soon as you kick in with a paid plan you receive a free custom domain.

Some cons with Wix is like Squarespace, there are no wedding-specific features. Registry details will have to be manually uploaded but according to reviews many folks don’t seem to mind this.

Riley & Grey

Now we’re getting into some higher-class sites. Riley & grey looks downright gorgeous. Their feature set is quite robust, and guests can curate a playlist. The RSVP tool is clunky (and might as well not even be a feature), but the entire site is highly customizable.

For couples who want to shine on the design end, with Riley & Grey you’ve certainly found it.
