Travel Tips: African Safari Tours

There’s travel, and then there’s travel. When communicated in this manner the latter typically means more of an adventure and less lounging by a pool. More bugs, less daiquiris, more contact with folks you’ve never been in touch with and less gift-shops. If this is your kind of travel experience, then this post is a must read.

Today we’re going to talk African safari tours. There is perhaps nothing on this green Earth of ours more spectacular from an animal-spotting experience than an African safari tour. The continent has already been chosen – Africa – but it’s a big place so narrowing down where to go based on you or your group’s interests is the next step.

We’re going to break down the suggestions over three categories –couples, honeymooners and families/groups. Odds are you will fall into one of these three. If you’re going alone, stick to the couple’ssuggestions.

Honeymooners

Cape Town, Kruger & Seychelles

These are three of the continent’s most sought-after destinations and to hit all three there are a number of providers who will put together a 15 to 18-day package which will likely include accommodations at world-class hotels like Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront and then the main event – seeing the Big 5 in the Singita Game Reserve. For safari newbies, the Big 5 are the lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and buffalo. Of those 5, the rhino and leopard are the toughest to spot, but the Singita hardly ever disappoints.

And if all this wasn’t enough, ending the trip at the Seychelles is a romantic conclusion to a top-rated adventure. Just what any adventuresome, honeymooning couple could ask for.

Families/Groups

Tanzania

One of the continent’s most prized jewels – the Serengeti National Park – Tanzania also offers a lesser known but just as impressive park – the Tarangire. Over 9 exciting days there are walking tours of both parks, typically beginning in the Tarangire, traversing through the Ngorongoro Conservation area, passing on to the Crater floor and ending up in the Serengeti. Through it all are fresh-coffee tastings as well as unmatched bird watching and night drives for nocturnal animal watching.

Couples

Botswana and Namibia

Nestled just above South Africa, Botswana and Namibia are two countries that share not only an extensive border but also some otherworldly flora and fauna. Namibia is the “beauty” of the two while Botswana has some world-class game viewing. This trip is a 2-week minimum adventure, taking couples or single folks through the remote desert camp, Namib Naukluft, camping under the Milky Way, hot-air-balloon, quad-bike rides and touring through petrified, ancient forests. Both a luxurious and unique way to experiencesouthern Africa in the most unforgettable manner possible.
