Televisions

Your personal scribe cannot imagine another invention that changed his life more than the T.V. A sad comment really, with parent’s only collective objective being getting their kids away from the screen so not to suck at their fragile brains. And while my parents did their best to pry my little head away, back I went. Like some horrible drug, I was hooked and to this day the siren of the screen calls my name.

Not all is bad. I write for a living after all, so how much damage could the boob tube have really caused? Plus, the difference is these days T.V. (streaming programs to be exact) currently offer so much more. Remember the control that just beeped and could only turn on and off the T.V.? We do. Remember when the control then arrived with the ability to raise and lower the volume? We do. Then came some serious radical stuff – channel surfing. This was a game changer, because as kids we no longer had to plop ourselves in front of the T.V. and change the channel manually for our parents. Hadn’t they heard of slave labor, what a way to treat your kids!

The real treat with the T.V. however came with the shift between black and white and color. Many of our parents were around in the black and white age, and prior to that – radio. But once those images transformed into color, folks literally lost their minds. From there we went to digital, images becoming more crisp, high definition, and the present – entertainment systems that will allow you to work, read email, watch Netflix and monitor your kid’s room camera, all on one screen.

There are a lot of killer T.V. options out there today. The LG B8 OLED for example gets consistently positive reviews, featuring exceptional picture quality, HDR Gaming, crazy wide viewing angles and good uniformity. That last one is T.V. talk for all you junkies out there. The Sony X900F is also another solid pick-up, bringing with it a wide color gamut, great motion handling and fast response time. This television competes with the Samsung NU8000 and depending on who you talk to the race with the two is neck and neck.

If you’re seeking something a bit smaller, you could do a whole lot worse than the TCL 28S305. At just 28 inches, while small this T.V. packs a load of bang for every one of those 28 inches. A fantastic purchase if your kid is heading off to college and needs a reliable friend during the first couple lonely months. Make sure he or she eventually gets out and socializes, however. You don’t want them returning home post-graduation after all!
