Online Nursing Programs and Nursing Schools

It’s a shame, but nursing does not get the credit nor coverage it should. When most people think of a career in medicine, the natural first thought is doctor. The problem with that however is not everyone can go to school for 8 to 10 years, and imagine if we had a large contingent of folks in school for that long over an entire generation? Not a great idea, is it.

Thankfully we have a host of other medical careers that are fantastic and take less time to get a degree in. Nursing is one of those, and post-graduation getting a job is a snap. Nurses are always in hot demand and year after year the nursing profession boasts some of the highest level of job satisfaction scores compared to a host of similar careers. Back in 2017 a survey conducted by AMN Healthcare revealed 83% of nurses feel satisfied with their career which is an impressively high number, no doubt about it.

Prior to choosing where to study for a degree in nursing, figuring out your specialization is key. Many nurses get into general medicine, mainly because they can move around more flexibly and are not tied to a area. Others however are passionate about the ER for example, or sports medicine, geriatrics, newborns, the list goes on and on. Figure out your passion first and then sit down to hash out program specifics.

As the title suggests however, we aren’t going to dive into the best nursing programs in the country. Rather, we’re hitting the worldwide web (unless you live in China, North Korea or Iran, these sites won’t be available unfortunately). The number one ranked online program is Rush University out of Chicago. Coming in at number two is the University of South Carolina. A public institution, South Carolina leverages 19 years of experience and works with tech designers to deliver groundbreaking pedagogy that is second to none. Academic advisement, financial aid and access to the South Carolina Center for Teaching Excellence are all available with this program and future employers know what they’re getting with a Carolina graduate. The application deadline is March 1st and there are roughly 545 students online every year.

Number three in the country is Johns Hopkins University. From a name perspective, easily the most prestigious of the top 10. The advantage with Hopkins is if you can attend in person as well as online of course. There are part-time programs as well as dual degree programs with Hopkins, and the faculty is quite simply, world renowned.

The list only gets better, but these are the top 3. Hit these first and if you’re not satisfied, 4 through 25 await.
