Moving Containers and Storage

Moving Containers and Storage

We’ve written on things that really suck. But moving is right up with the best of them. The thing about moving (and subsequent storage), is prepping the big stuff isn’t so bad. In fact, there’s something almost liberating taking a table apart or throwing all your shoes into a giant box and calling it a day. But then you get to the kitchen, removing plate by plate, wrapping them in bubble wrap, and gently placing those non-sentimental items in boxes - this is tedious, and if that wasn’t bad, next is the glassware. You then have tons of things that are miscellaneous in nature, and you can’t really define what they are, so you just write “MISC” on the box and hope for the best. This whole ordeal is numbing, but it’s a fact of life. If you’ve never moved or stored anything in your life, congratulations, but here’s a news flash - your Mom wants you out of the house!

Humans who grow up and become independent do a heck of a lot of moving and storing. The business model has thankfully become much more customer-centric, and moving container and storage companies in 2020 are lightyears more evolved than their 90s predecessors. Let’s take a gander ...

U-Pack

There’s a reason they’re one of the best movers and storage facilities in the business. It might be the oldest firm out there, and if you’re moving out of state, their quotes are hard to beat. In fact, U-Pack continues to receive exceptional reviews for their moves under 250 miles and their cross-country rates are super competitive as well. The pros of U-Pack is you only pay for the space you use and there’s nationwide coverage. The downside is parking can be challenging at their storage facilities and you have just three days to load and unload the container.

PODS

Now this is a cool name - PODS. Without even diving into their business it’s safe to say pods of some sort are in play. The best thing about PODS (although there’s a lot to like) is the ability to store them on your property or at their facility. You can pack the pod at your leisure and then ship them once you’re ready. There are military discounts, nationwide locations, a range of insurance coverage, and handy online shipment tracking.

Moving Place

Moving Place is another company, where like PODS, you load your things and then call them for the move. There are options to contract Moving Place personnel to assist, but you can save a ton of cash by taking care of this on your own (or calling some buddies who won’t want to help but you guilt them into it anyway). If you have an overly large move, the pricing on Moving Place freight trailers is extremely competitive. Their customer service department always receives rave reviews and the only negative we could find was no online quotes.

From here, some other reputable companies are Zippy Shell, 1-800-Pack-Rat (our vote for best name), U-Box, and SMARTBOX Portable Storage. Moving sucks, we’ll say it again. But it sucks less to move and store with these players.
