Lawn Equipment and Garden Plants

Living in a house is a wonderful thing. Apartments are great, don’t get us wrong. They’re self-contained, easy, affordable and typically in high-density areas where there is plenty to do and much to walk to. But a house on the other hand is typically more spacious, quieter, ideal for kids, and best yet, there’s a garden. Some houses have expansive gardens while others are a tad smaller. But regardless, a garden is a green area and a green area is always welcome.

Tending to a garden can be done in a variety of ways. Some folks are rather casual about it, while others take it quite seriously. While the serious ones will obviously require more tools and equipment, there is a base set that should be considered regardless of your commitment level. To begin, gloves. Rather basic but a good set of gloves will make all the difference in the world. Who wants to be pulling weeds or digging into crummy soil with your fingertips? It’s nasty work and the clean-up can be gross. Gloves will save you from cuts, thorns, blisters, scrapes, the whole shebang.

Next up are spreaders and sprayers. Your lawn and all the shrubbery involved are living, breathing things. They won’t be able to answer your questions nor opine on up-coming political elections, but they are living and living things need water. And more than water, there are also some excellent fertilizers that can be dispersed in a liquid manner. Spot treatment (hitting certain spots in a strategic fashion) are recommend with a spreader, and for areas larger than half an acre a good sprayer with the capacity to hold four plus gallons or fertilizer of water is recommended.

So, you’ve got your gloves and a sprayer, but no yard care would be complete without a trimmer. A super handy yard tool, the trimmer allows you to cut weeds and grass on your terms. It is also a must for reaching nooks and crannies that a mower can’t get to. Once all that grass is cut however, you need to rake it up. Guess what’s next? A rake! You might be thinking, “Ok, a rake is a rake, no big drama here.” Wrong, surprisingly enough there are a ton of varieties of rakes to choose from. Once you hit the store be sure to be transparent with the salesperson as to the type of shrubbery you’ll be raking up. That will ensure you receive the best possible rake for your needs.

Once you get your hands on the above mentioned, figuring out which garden plants are ideal for your yard is next. This is highly dependent of course on where you live. What grows well in Panama isn’t exactly ideal for Anchorage, Alaska. But with that said, here are some great plants for most gardens. One of the most popular “filler” plants out there are Queen Anne’s Lace. You can plant hundreds and they look great in bloom. Another is Peonies. Super easy to grow, Peonies thrive in most climates and can honestly live for 100 plus years if adequately cared for. Lavender is a personal favorite, literally indestructible and available in exceptional hues. If you live in an area with deer as well, Lavender holds up quite well.

We’ve just outlined a gorgeous garden, haven’t we! You can’t go wrong with this equipment and these plants. A wonderful world now awaits in your own backyard!
