Gaming Laptops

Gaming Laptops

Had we embarked on this topic 10 years ago, first, it wouldn’t be a topic. Online gaming was certainly prevalent, as we’ve written on before. Nothing like the present, but companies were beginning to consolidate, some being gobbled up the big boys and girls. The writing was on the wall – online gaming was here to stay and it was only a matter of time before our kids would eschew playing outside and instead prefer to interact with their friends in this crazy virtual world.

As a parent, this is naturally concerning. Will all this screen time turn them into adults without any social skills or questionable emotional IQs? It’s certainly likely. After all, we don’t have any information or literature to go on. In many ways, parents in 2020 are flying a bit blind. But you could say the same of every generation before us. There’s always novel technology that wasn’t available 20 years earlier. The difference here however is gaming is altering how kids (and adults, you know who you are) interact and play. But play they do, and to play you need a solid gaming laptop.

One can game on a desktop or laptop computer. Some smartphones will also allow for some interesting gaming experiences, but the hard-core guys and gals prefer a desk or laptop. Desktops have their own value, and we’ll cover those in another post. But today we’re going to dive into the latter, gaming laptops, and those that hold some tremendous value. Leading off is the Acer Predator 17 G9-791-78CE. Crazy name – Predator – and the best part yet, under the hood this thing is just as powerful as its name suggests. The trackpad and keyboard are strong points with the Predator and with 32GB of RAM and a 512GB PCle SSD, hard to argue at the value the Predator throws forth.

The Gigabyte P35x V5 is a relatively new brand on the gaming laptop scene. The graphics performance has chat rooms a buzz, as does the price. We haven’t talked price yet, but this option comes in at an extremely affordable $1,546. Moreover, the Gigabyte has poured in some insane specs at that price point as well as an extra Nvidia GTX 980 8GB. The Lenovo Y700 is a real treat for all you audiophiles out there. Featuring JBL dual-channel stereo speakers and a 3W subwoofer, your parent’s basement will never sound the same. But this laptop is much more than bumps and beats as it features a super handy raised screen as well as an ultra-cool fan. The days of laptops overheating is long gone with this Lenovo.

And last but not least, the Dell Inspiron i7559. If you’re a gamer who is on a budget (by budget, we mean your parents are all tapped out), then the i7559 is a good one to ask for Christmas. While it doesn’t look all that sexy, this laptop’s GPU is monstrous. Coming in strong with a GTX 960M with 4GB, the Inspiron has no problems whatsoever handling any game you throw at it. And at $799 you won’t find anything close, guaranteed.

We understand these are investments for all those parents out there. They are also investments for adults who play online instead of reading to their kids at night (we kid). But if you truly feel the need to go online and shoot at someone, do it on one of these. Your loved ones would be proud.
