Bean Bag Chairs

Bean Bag Chairs

There are few things as fun as performing a giant flip onto a monster bean bag chair. As kids, these were everyday occurrences. Heck, as adults, for some these continue to be everyday occurrences. Bean bags, 50 years ago, were quite different than the ones we’ve got today. We owe plenty of thanks to Mr. William Roger Dean when he filed for the first bean bag patent back in 1968. Dean must have had a vision for the future, because that patent alone made the guy a ton of dough!

While bean bags (as a name) originated in 1968, the general model of a bag with beans or some sort of filler trace back to Ancient China. The concept in itself is not overly complicated. But one of the reasons bean bags are so popular today is memory foam. The initial knock on the bean bag was it wasn’t great for your back. This is why it was considered kid’s furniture as opposed to an option for adults. Folks with back issues found them difficult to sit on (painlessly) because early bean bag filling was too soft. While the bag adjusted to your individual preferences, there wasn’t much support from an ergonomic perspective. Memory foam, however, has now put this to rest.

Memory foam is harder, just as flexible as traditional bean bag filling, and best yet, it molds itself to the unique contours of the user. Many bean bags today occupy some gradation of memory foam. They are an absolute joy to relax on, and here are some popular makes and models.

Lumaland Luxury Bean Bag Chairs

The coolest things about Lumaland bags aren’t the design or the feel of the bag. Well, for some it might be, but for many, it’s the colors. Another knock against bean bags is they’re infantile. Why would an adult want a bean bag chair as part of their living room? Much of this has to do with colors. Kids bean bags are fire engine red, or an off-putting purple. Lumaland bags, however, come in muted colors. Off-whites and muted blues are popular picks and their sizes go anywhere from 3 feet up to 7 feet.

Yogibo Lounger Bean Bags

Along the lines of Lumaland bags, Yogibo bags are described by many online as “sleek” and “unassuming.” These are small, recliners, perfect for an afternoon of reading, checking emails, talking on the phone, or doing a little online gaming. Yogibo bags are small, so you can transport them from room to room, no problem. They’re great for both adults and kids, and you won’t get any pushback by leaving them in the living room next to your great-grandmother’s China cabinet.

Jaxx Giant Bean Bag Sofas

We’ve saved the best for last (and a personal favorite). If you’re going to go big in the bean bag world, look no further. Again, some folks are into “sleek and unassuming,” while others want to make a statement. This bean bag sofa (yes, sofa!) will be an instant hit with the family. Picture a giant bean bag, big enough for two or even three people, that you can relax, sleep, eat a meal, or whatever on. This thing weighs 88 pounds but you won’t be moving it much. It’s known as the “monster bag” in bean bag circles, and Jaxx couldn’t be prouder.

The one thing we didn’t mention, and deserves a mention, is bean bags are cheap. Sure, the sofa will run you a bit more than the other bags, but these are accessible pieces of furniture for most, and a blast to hang out on.
