Is pet insurance the answer

A 2017 survey done by the North American Pet Health Insurance Association found that 68% of U.S. households own pets, but only about 1% of those pets are insured.

A common sense survey done by me found that 100% of pet owners worry about their pets being sick, and I'm almost positive that a great majority of those pet owners would consider an unexpected vet visit for a major health issue a burdensome expense. And who wants to choose between debt from vet visits and a sick pet?

So, is pet insurance the answer?

Consider pet insurance as you would human insurance. You've opted in to make sure that you and your family can alleviate some of the costs of being healthy; it is about peace of mind and being prepared for emergency situations.

About pet insurance:

With pet insurance, you can pick and choose different levels of coverage. Some cover basic scenarios like check-ups and accidents, whereas more comprehensive coverage would cover hereditary/genetic issues.

The major difference between human insurance and pet insurance, however is that pet insurance primarily works on a reimbursement basis. You pay the cost upon visiting the care center, and submit it to the insurance company for reimbursement. Depending on your coverage, you may be reimbursed a percentage of costs, or ALL.

The best way to know if pet insurance is for you, is to consider some of the coverage options offered by some of the better pet insurance companies.
