Camera Brands

Camera Brands

Like computers, this is a big, big, category. Camera brands are plentiful, mainly because the technology that goes into making a truly exceptional camera in 2019 is otherworldly. Photography buffs are living in a golden age and we’re going to break down the leading camera brands on the market today.

Canon

One of the most well-known, and well-respected, Canon is exceptionally well-reviewed because it has a line of cameras for the most amateur of the bunch straight up to a seasoned pro. Canon’s point-and-shoot line as well as their EOS digital SLR cameras are user-friendly and affordable. A host of accessories and luxury lenses are available worldwide and with such a diverse line-up finding said accessories is always easy.

Nikon

Like Canon, Nikon is another global leader. These two are like the Nike and Adidas of the camera world. Economic, the Nikon AF-S line is a big seller and if your budget allows, Nikon is especially known for the intuitive nature of their cameras as they become more expensive. Shooting in low light is where Nikon butters its bread, and they have won numerous awards for taking the sharpest images around. One of the top-sellers in the industry is the Nikon D-series which are compatible with vintage F-mount lenses.

Pentax

While it doesn’t roll off the camera-savvy tongue like Canon or Nikon, Pentax is quietly one of the most respected brands for photographers of every level. Their cameras are extremely durable, some waterproof, and easy to use. In fact, Pentax users report higher loyalty with the brand than Canon or Nikon, something that speaks volumes to the satisfaction these cameras provide.

Sony

Sony is an absolute monster considering the range of products they produce. Cameras are one, and when it comes to premium, mirrorless point-and-shoot digital cameras, look no further. In fact, the early 2000s were owned by Sony with their very popular Cyber-shot line of compact cameras. The strengths of Sony are their futuristic designs, competitive DLSRs, and affordable price-tags. You might get better performance with some other brands, but Sony takes risks, and sometimes they pay off.

Olympus

Lastly, a pioneer in mirrorless cameras which also featured interchangeable lenses. Olympus does one thing, and one thing well – SLR cameras. But they then caught everyone off-guard when they came out with DSLRs which were faster, lighter and smaller. Price is also a competitive advantage with Olympus as they offer the most bang for your buck out of the any of the brands on this list.
