On average a search at this level takes roughly 2 to 3 days to complete.

Onboarding with a company like GoodHire is also a snap as once you as a company are verified (a 1-day process), ordering and reviewing background checks can then all be completed online on a customized portal. Final reports are saved and analyzed (should you select that option), and customer support is available Monday to Friday from 8AM to 8PM (EST).

If you are more of a “do-it-yourself” type, then BackgroundReport is the provider for you. In fact, at an individual level, BackgroundReport is one of very few providers that abides by federal regulations which govern how checks must be conducted. An individual or employer can choose from the Basic and Premium packages which cost from $19.95 and up. Checks review social security numbers, sex offender registries, terrorist watch lists, social security death index checks and much more. At a basic level BackgroundReport is more than complete.

The great thing about BackgroundReport however is the results are instant. Yet, compared to other services BackgroundReport is different in that candidates get to see the report first. Odd, right? Candidates get a chance to review the report, make any notes and discover what was discovered before employers can review. Apparently, this is not that uncommon, but we found it strange to say the least.

Lastly, HireRight. An outstanding choice for very small businesses (5 to 8 folks). The reason being is the business rate of $39.95 per report is ideal for this size. Essentially providing the same information as GoodHire, but not as complete, this is ideal if your business is not likely to exceed 10 people anytime soon. Now, you cannot engage in checks on contract employees which many businesses of this size have. But any full-time folks are fair game.

There you have it employers, a great option at any size. Get those checks in place, not doing so will certainly cost you, that’s a guarantee!
