Appliance Stores

Appliance Stores

While the internet has shaken up how we purchase, brick and mortar stores are still prevalent as we well know. Some folks still prefer to touch and interact with a product prior to purchasing, and in the appliance world this surely holds true.

Big appliance purchases are important household decisions. Refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, all items that most of us would like to hang on to over the long-term if we can. They aren’t sexy buys, but rather important buys, and choosing the right store is a major factor in the decision.

Across the states there are hundreds of appliance stores to choose from. In this post we’re going to touch on the biggies, the main players who for the most part will factor in to your decision when purchasing a major appliance.

Home Depot

Counting on literally thousands of stores across the nation, Home Depot is known not only for its sheer variety/inventory, but also its affordable prices. The retailer often rolls out their “Special Buy” promotions which levy attractive discounts on certain select models (depending on the month).

The great thing about Home Depot, as with most of the other retailers on this list, is browsing their inventory online is a snap. Easy to navigate, transparent pricing and catchy graphics keep folks online likely more than they ever intended to be. Additionally, the Home Depot price-match program will allow clients to match a product offered at another retailer and if said retailer has the same product for less, Home Depot will honor that price. Now, this sounds excellent but there are some stores Home Depot has said they cannot compete with. At least they’re up-front!

Lowe’s

Like Home Depot, Lowe’s is laid out in a similar fashion with similar offers. Not as extensive as far as a presence around the States, Lowe’s is growing, and retail analysts are bullish on their progress over the coming decade. Major appliance brands sch as LG, Samsung, Maytag, GE and Whirlpool are ever present, and like Home Depot, Lowe’s also offers a price-match deal.

A distinguishing factor with Lowe’s is their next day delivery. Free on purchases that exceed $396, you’ll get that new refrigerator, dryer or washer in your house within 24 hours. For an extra $20 they’ll also haul the old one away.

Best Buy

Otherwise known as the “tech superstore,” Best Buy is a technological wonderland that also sells large appliances. The only thing it lacks is a vegetable and clothing aisle and this place would be the go-to store for everything. If you’re in the market for a run-of-the-mill washer and dryer, Home Depot or Lowe’s is a good bet. But if you’re looking for the most technologically advanced washer and dryer, that’s when Best Buy comes into play.

Like Lowe’s, purchases running north of $400 will be delivered next day and Best Buy also offers installation services from their dedicated group of engineers who are literal wizards when it comes to setting up new home additions.

Amazon

Lastly, we couldn’t have an appliance store post without mentioning the giant (albeit online) in the room. Amazon has quickly become a shopper’s preferred destination and while their selection is perhaps not as robust as brick-and-mortar stores when it comes to appliances, their prices are extremely competitive.

In fact, a highly publicized price comparison mystery shopper revealed savings of up to $300 on select, large appliances on Amazon. While you can’t touch the products, it might not matter when up to $300 can be potentially saved.
